One of the main reasons I chose Vanna above her litter sisters was her tendancy to want to retrieve. I have waited for a Great Dane to compete to the upper levels in obedience with, and felt due to this apptitude Vanna was the girl for me. She also possesed a great flair for athletics as well as a no fear attitude and I felt this would benefit us both in agility and tracking.

Vanna is such a busy girl. At Sedalia, in July 2001, she attained the first leg toward her CD with a score of 183. She will only get better.

And she has! She competed at the Dane Specialty in Des Moines in September and got her second leg with a score of 189. She added a bit of flare to the recall, but was otherwise working very nicely. The next day she completed her title. Now on to Open.

Vanna has an excellent start on her agility career. She has her first leg on her UKC Ag.1 title with a score of 195. She and I both had a great time. She will certainly be doing more of this!

In August, 2001, Vanna added a second leg to her UKC Ag 1 title with a score of 194. The first day she was a bit confused as I wasn't there to handle her. She pulled several rather amusing stunts and got quite a rise out of the onlookers. She wasn't nearly as amusing to watch on Sunday, but her performance was one to be proud of. She will start competing in AKC agility very soon.

Vanna now has two AKC novice standard agility legs, and one novice JWW leg. She competed in Lawrence and got a 2nd in JWW, and a 1st and a clean run in Standard and her first double Q.

Although the jump above is a non-qualifying jump, it is one I am pretty darned proud of none the less! Yes, Vanna is very athletic.

Vanna is showing nice form over this jump. As you can see, 24" is not a problem when she is focused.

One more shot from Lawrence. A lovely shot of her on the teter.

Vanna got her second standard leg in Wichita. It was a lovely clean run and good for a second place, well under time.

In an excellent competition in Rock Island, IL, Vanna ran her heart out. Although her first standard run was a bit embarrasing, she quickly turned things around. She got her second NAJ leg with only 2 second time penalties and third place. She had also taken WB in conformation that am, so was given a versitility award by the club. The next day she wowed the crowd, and Vanna does tend to draw a croud, with an clean run in standard, good for second place, and a clean run in jumpers for first place. Her jumpers run was awesome, and she was well under time with a 28 second run. Another double Q.

Vanna and I moved up to open and although we have met with a little difficulty making the adjustment, she got her first open legs in standard and JWW in Des Moines. She placed 4th in both classes.

Vanna and I have had a few small problems here and there getting her third CDX leg. We had hoped to get her title at the National, but due to a rather bouncy floor and a bit of a wild dumbbell, she anticipated the retrieve and did not qualify in open A obedience. She did have a nice open standard agility run. She was the only qualifyer and took first place. She got a little silly again in JWW and had a few bars down, so didn't get another JWW leg.

Vanna acquired her CDX in November 2002 with a second placing in the class. She also took WB/BOS the same day.

Another new title for Vanna and I, was acquired in Jan 2003. She finished her OA title 4 seconds under time, with a clean run and third place.

It took a little longer to get those last two open JWW legs, but she did it in Wichita, April 2003 and made us look good! She placed 4th both days, completing her title with a clean run. We moved up to excellent JWW on Sunday, and without even being able to walk the course Vanna gave me a truely excellent run. But for 1 second, she would have acquired her first excellent leg. She also ran well in excellent standard all weekend, just a few kinks we need to work out, but no bars down and overall and excellent weekend. She also competed in conformation all weekend taking RWB Friday and Saturday, and WB on Sunday. But best of all, Vanna had a wonderful time, and entertained the croud, as usual.

Vanna will be taking some time off to be a mom. Something she has wanted to do for some time. She was bred in Jan. 2004, and has a litter due March 7th, 2004. See planned breedings for more information about this special event.

After 4 months off, Vanna is back in competition. It hasn't been easy getting back in the swing, but Vanna already has her first Excellent JWW leg. There aren't many agility trials remaining this year, but we will try for an excellent title before the year is out.

Vanna added another excellent JWW leg, and an excellent standard leg in St Louis in November with a double Q.

Vanna finished her excellent jumpers title early in 2005. Her excellent standard title is only one leg away-here's hoping.

2005 also meant more time off for Vanna to have one final litter.

She is back in the ring now and currently competing in Rally Obedience, Utility Obedience and Excellent Agility. She acquired her Rally Novice, Advanced and Excellent titles with ease.

Vanna completed her RAE1 with ease, getting several 100's and maintaining the #1 spot in Rally Excellent for the majority of 2006.

The GDCA National was a lot of run. Vanna played a part in the murder mystery dinner and got rave reviews from the attendees. She soaked up all the attention like a true star.

Not to be outdone by her daughter in performance, at 7 years young, Vanna completed her NJP title with a clean run and second place.

Vanna being Vanna, never ceases to amaze me. She has continued to love to compete and finished her NAP as well as her OAP and OJP. AKC, however, seems to have lost track of her last two legs, so it isn't officially recorded, but we know we have them.

There have been a lot of ups and downs with Vanna and utility. So many times we have been close, but missed by 1 exercise, then others she seemed not to have a clue why we were there.

I hoped by doing rally to improve some of her skills and give her a change of attitude in the ring-make it fun again. She finished her RAE2 with ease and many placements in all breed competition, but the UD continued to evade us until mid summer 2007.

Wow, not only did she get her first leg, she was the only one to qualify that day. I couldn't believe it, she finally did it, did it all!!!!!!! Was there a chance-could we get a UD, would be get leg 2 and 3? I could only hope and wait and see.

The next show weekend she picked up her second UD leg and 3rd place. Again, I was shocked and thrilled. We had one more try that weekend to pick up her third leg and I got a little quick and we missed 1 exercise and NQ'd. We had several weeks before another trial.

Off to NE. She was competing in agility as well as utility. I also had Jasmine in agility and Arwen, Bon Jovi and Winterhawk in conformation.
We didn't Q the first day, so here we are, the last class the last day, waiting to do utility, Vanna and I. Lo and behold, though not pretty, Vanna did it! She qualified and got her 3rd UD leg and her title. It took 4 years and 1 month from when we started going in the ring to when she got the title, but she did it. Perserverence!

Vanna competed in agility at the 2007 GDCA National and although she didn't qualify, she had an absolute ball, showing off for the croud in the weaves and never droping a bar.
