Certification

Liberty Assistance Dogs, Inc. will certify assistance dogs that have been trained by individuals for their own purposes as well as dogs we have trained and placed and dog/handler teams that have been through our training program. We will only do certifications in person. We are a lagitimate organization and do not send certification through the mail to unknown persons with dogs we cannot verify have the training and qualifications as a working service dog. We value the work service dogs provide and will not, for that reason, certify in any way other than in person.

The fee for certifiecation is $25.00 and is tax deductable.

The certification is a three (3) step process. Each step must be passed by the dog/handler team in order to be certified by LADI. Once certified you will receive a laminated card with your dogs identification information-microchip or tatoo number, name, the name of the handler, the name and logo of our organization as well as our FEIN number. The card will be signed by our president as well as the trainer that certifies the dog/handler team. You will also receive an iron on logo for your dogs vest. You are not required to put this on the vest, but we would hope that you would be proud to do so.

The above information is important because should, for any reason, you be questioned about the validity of your certification you can contact our organization for assistance.

We will keep records on file of your evaluation for your use only, should you need to reference them.

Prior to certification you will need to supply LADI with the following:
1. Up to date vaccination record.
2. Microchip or tatoo varified on health check by veterinarian.
3. Veterinarian health check which includes a negative fecal.

For certification the steps are as follows:
Step 1:
For certification the dog/handler team must first pass a CGC level evaluation. This is the socialization portion of the certification required of a service dog. The dog/handler team will be evaluated by an AKC CGC evaluator and as such will be able to apply for an AKC CGC certificate, should they so desire.

Step 2:
This phase requires CD,(AKC novice level), obedience skills. You can go to akc.org to get a complete set of the rquirements for this level of obedience. This essentially requires both on leash healing, short off leash healing, a recall and short stays.

Step 3:
To pass this step the dog must perform/demonstrate the task(s) required to be certified in the area requested. Proper documentation from a liscensed medical practitioner may also be required for emotional support dogs.

We at LADI feel these are the minimum standards that should be met by any service dog. We hold service dogs to high standard as they perform a service for a group of individuals in a public as well as a private setting and for these reasons must prove themselves to be reliable, sociable companions in numerous settings.
